Play-In Worlds 2024 Starts Today – Day 1 Match Schedule of the LoL World Championship 2024

Today, September 25, in Berlin, the first day of the LoL World Championship 2024 – the main event of the 2024 professional season – kicks off. In this championship, 20 teams will compete for the right to be called the strongest, but only one team, only 5 players, will achieve this goal.
The road to the Summoner’s Cup begins with the Play-In stage. Here, 8 teams will compete in a double-elimination stage, and only half of them will advance. Let's take a look at the Worlds 2024 Schedule for Day 1 and prepare for what's ahead.
Play-In Worlds 2024 Schedule: Day 1
On the first day of Worlds 2024, we can expect two matches. MAD Lions KOI, VIKINGS Esports, PSG Talon, and paiN Gaming will begin their journey to the Swiss Stage of Worlds 2024.
MAD Lions KOI vs. Vikings Esports
Opening the “qualifying stage” of Worlds 2024 will be MAD Lions KOI (LEC) and Vikings Esports (VCS). Both clubs reached Worlds 2024 through the final regional slots: MAD Lions KOI placed Top-3 in the LEC Finals 2024, while Vikings Esports secured second place in the VCS 2024 Summer.
For both clubs, participating in Worlds 2024 is a historic achievement: MAD Lions KOI may be appearing in a tournament of this caliber for the first time after a season with a negative win rate, while Vikings Esports have qualified for the World Championship for the first time in the club’s history. We previously made a prediction for the match between MAD Lions KOI and Vikings Esports. Spoiler: the Lions are expected to win.
PSG Talon vs. paiN Gaming
The second and final match of the first day of the Play-In Worlds 2024 Schedule will be PSG Talon (VCS) vs. paiN Gaming (CBLOL). The main focus here is on PSG Talon, the VCS Summer 2024 champions and the leading contender for a spot in the Swiss Stage.
PSG Talon is the most experienced team in the Play-In stage of the LoL World Championship 2024: they are playing in their 4th World Championship and have previously participated in 4 Mid-Season Invitational tournaments. Among all the Play-In Worlds 2024 participants, PSG Talon has the most stable roster, featuring the LPL champion, JinJia, in the Jungler position.
PSG Talon's presence at Worlds is hardly surprising and, truth be told, is already a given, whereas paiN Gaming is making their Worlds series debut at the World Championship 2024, unexpectedly becoming CBLOL champions and leaving behind former regulars of international competitions, LOUD.
PSG Talon's debut match should be fairly straightforward. At least, it seems that way, considering the vast experience of the representatives of the PCS region compared to paiN.
