Could Fortnite's New Updates Help Grow its Esports Scene?

Fortnite is one of the world's most popular video games ever, with over 350 million registered users who play on a regular basis, so it may come as a surprise to learn that it's NOT the most popular game in the world of eSports.

One reason for this is that there just isn't as much sponsorship or prize money in eSports leagues and tournaments, such as the Fortnite World Cup.

The question being asked here is, could Fortnite's new updates help grow the game in the eSports scene? Find out more right here.

What's new in Fortnite?

One of the biggest new developments in Fortnite in recent times is the new Fortnite Creative 2.0 tool, also known as Epic Games' Creative 2.0 Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). It arrived in March 2023, and it's being hailed as one of the next big steps in gaming.

The new Unreal Editor of Fortnite (UEFN) is simply fantastic. After several months of setbacks, Epic Games finally released this new creative tool that enables users to collaborate with other users to design, create, expand upon, and test unique new environments and landscapes within the Fortnite universe.

Users can invite each other to see what they have created, and being able to modify the existing Fortnite maps is being hailed as the future of gaming. However, will this new tool be enough to help the game's popularity as an eSport? Only time will tell.

They can even include custom assets, such as an incredible number of in-play props and things like buildings, animals, characters, weapons, and even pictures of yourself.

It can be accessed from all major consoles and platforms, such as PC, Xbox, Nintendo, and Playstation. It basically enables budding enthusiasts to create truly unique worlds. The only real downside is that you must be at least 18 years old to be a creator and use the Creative 2.0 platform.

Is it possible to bet on Fortnite eSports events?

Yes. There are some fully licensed online bookmakers that have a wide range of esports betting markets for today's biggest eSports events.

Examples of today's biggest eSports events that you can generally find markets for with competitive odds are Dota 2: The International, the PUBG Global Championship, and the BLAST Premier League.

Other notable events include the Intel Extreme Masters Qualifiers, the North American ESL Pro League Conference, and the Honor of Kings International Championship, to name a few.

Some of the biggest video games played in these events, apart from Fortnite, are League of Legends, Starcraft 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rainbow 6, League of Legends, and Valorant.

What features does it come with?

It comes with plenty of innovative features, which may take a little getting used to. However, the layout is fairly straightforward, making navigating your way around the new creative tool easy. Some of the built-in features that can help you build upon existing Fortnite maps include things like:

  • Adding epic cinematic sequences
  • The ability to manipulate props
  • ● A terrain editor
  • ● Add unique working animations
  • ● Tinker with VFX (visual effects)

If you want to see if you can become a part of the Unreal Editor, go to the Epic Store and simply follow the instructions to download the software. To get to grips quickly with the software, you may want to watch a few useful videos that are already available on YouTube.

What can be done to make Fortnite more popular as an eSports game?

There's no question that Fortnite is a popular game. Tournaments simply need to find better sponsorship deals to entice the biggest players and teams from the eSports world. This alone should improve the tournament cash prizes and payout structure.

It would also help to shake things up with a variety of new tournament modes that will naturally attract more people and make the events more exciting for both the players and the spectators.

Don't forget, to place a real money wager on any upcoming eSports tournaments, you must be at least 18 years old. If you do bet on any eSports events, always remember to gamble responsibly. Never spend more than you can afford, and try to stick within your budget.
