The International 2023 - Southeast Asia QualifierWelcome to EGamersWorld.
Qualifiers for Dota 2 International 2023 in Southeast Asia are coming to a close. We've got one last day of games left to watch.
There are only 3 teams left from Southeast Asia in the race for the only slot for the main tournament of the year. Among the contenders are SMG, who have already secured their place in the grand finals of qualifications, as well as Blacklist and Geek Slate. We will talk more about the latter two.
Geek Slate and Blacklist International will play each other for a place in the final qualifiers, where the winner of the pair will play with SMG in Bo5, and the loser will leave the tournament. Let's try to figure out which of the teams will be more capable and in the next match will play against SMG, and who will say goodbye to the prospect of visiting Seattle this October to participate in the main event of the season.
Let's go.
Blacklist International uniforms
We open the match analysis with an analysis of Blacklist International's form. In this match the team will play the first number one.
Bookmakers continue to believe in the ability of Blacklist despite their last series. The odds for a win are at around 1.4.
I agree, Blacklist International is the favourite, as it was before the Long Sogpeg of the tournament. However, the team's last series left a bitter aftertaste.
In the first round of the DPC 2023 Blacklist International took the top 4, leaving them one step away from the Lima Major 2023. This is nothing, because at DPC 2023: Sea Division 1 Tour 2 the situation was worse. At DPC 2023: SEA Tour 2 Blacklist International were already in the top 5. There was obviously no Major to speak of.
In between very mediocre results at DPC 2023, the team participated in local events. This was the BTS Pro Series Season 14, where BI took the top 3.
The key result for the year, however, was a top-2 finish in the third round of the DPC followed by an appearance at Bali Major 2023. Unfortunately for Blacklist and their fans, the club with big name players failed to show class at their only international tournament of the season. At Bali Major 2023, Blacklist finished in the top 14.
- Blacklist International lineup: Raven, Karl, kpii, TIMS, kuku.
Bali Major 2023 was the last tournament for BI before the Long Sogpeg qualifiers for The International 2023. Despite the very mediocre result, the club kept the squad unchanged.
The team met Army Geniuses in the first round of the upper grid, where Blacklist got to thanks to the top 2 on the third round of the DPC and 360 DPC points in the asset. The match ended 2-0 in favour of Blacklist, but the match was not an easy ride, Blacklist had problems, especially on the first map.
In the match before that Blacklist played against Bleed. The match, which promised to be a battle of equal teams, turned out to be a beating of one of the sides. Iceiceice and company could not do anything against the serious-minded BI and as a result went to the lower grid.
Blacklist International played against SMG to advance to the grand finals. Being the favourite on paper, the team lost to MidOne and company with a score of 0-2.
The most popular Blacklist International heroes
Among the most piked heroes of Blacklist International is Pangolier. He has appeared in the peak 9 times and has 77% wins.
Next are Rubick (8 matches, 62% wins), Doom (6 matches, 83% wins).
There were also Techies (5 matches, 100% wins) and Enchantress (5 games, 60% wins).
Geek Slate uniforms
We continue the match analysis with an analysis of Geek Slate's form. In this match, the team is playing as a number two.
Bookmakers are still not ready to give the primacy to Geek Slate. Not in the match against Blacklist International.
The odds for Geek Slate to win are at around 2.6. To be fair, that's good for a Geek Slate level team against a Blacklist International ranked team.
Geek Slate had a pretty good season by Southeast Asian standards. Geek Slate looked especially quality early in the year, at DPC 2023: SEA Upper Division Tour 1.
In the first DPC Tour, Geek Slate unexpectedly finished in the top 2 of the league. Thanks to this performance, the team made it to the Major for the first time in the club's history.
To go to Lima Major 2023 they went, but did not manage to rock there. But the failure of the performance at Lima Major 2023 can not be called a failure: Geek Slate played the group with the score 2-3-3 and left the tournament at the stage of group stages.
Then there was a clear decline. Geek Slate finished top 7 in the second round of the DPC, followed by a drop to the lower division. In the break between the second and third rounds of the DPC, the team took part in 1XPLORE #1, where they took the first place.
- Geek Slate line-up: Ulnit, Kokz, Force, NARMAN, skem .
The last tournament before the Long Copeg qualifiers for The International 2023 was the third round of DPC, but in the second division. There Geek Slate had no equal and closed the tourney quite easily with a score of 7-0.
In the first match Geek Slate played against Team SMG, one of the 4 contender teams to qualify for The International through the Southeast Asian qualifiers. Geek Slate lost, but in a struggle, with a score of 1-2.
Next up for skem and company was a match against UD Vessuwan. Geek Slate were a head and shoulders above their counterparts, beating them 2-0.
In the previous round of the lower grid Geek Slate played against Neon Esports. The match was a tough one for the skem team, but after winning the series 2-1 they continue their march through the lower grid, where they fell after losing to SMG.
In the previous match they played against Bleed - the clear favourite and a contender for the win overall. Nervousness on the first won map turned into defeat on the second one. But the match ended with Bleed's luckless flight on the third map.
In the previous match Geek Slate defeated Execration with a score of 2-1. This is the second top team in the region to fall to Geek Slate.
The most popular Geek Slate characters
Undying remains the most popular Geek Slate character. The character has been spiked 9 times, of which he won 7 matches.
Lina has appeared in 8 matches and has a 75% win rate. Also picked DOOM in 8 games, winning half of their games.
Enigma has appeared in 7 matches in spades with 71% wins, while Mirana, with a similar number of matches, has a crushing winrate of 28%.
Head-to-head history
The teams have played each other twice over the course of the season and they were pretty eloquent matches. Both ended with a score of 2-1, but the winner was different.
The predicted result of the Geek Slate - Blacklist International matchup at The International 2023 - SEA Qualifiers
Considering the teams' path through the tournament, and their history of head-to-head meetings, I'm sure we're in for a fight in this match. Geek Slate seem to smell blood and are encouraged by their wins over Execration and Bleed, so they will be clinging to a win here. They'll have enough for one map, I believe that.
Bottom line: +1.5 on Geek Slate.
