Slowly but surely, we are getting closer to the end of the first round of the LEC Winter 2024 play-offs. As a reminder, there is $80,000 in prize money at stake and two tickets to the top games of the year: Mid-Season Invitational 2024 and LEC Finals 2024.

Among the contenders for the coveted prizes are Vitality and SK Gaming. Both teams will open the play-offs with a face-to-face meeting.

Let's try to figure out who will prove to be stronger in this close match and based on its outcome will be able to advance to the top grid of the play-offs further. The winner of the Heretics/BDS pairing will be expected to advance.

SK Gaming's form

Let's open the match analysis with an analysis of SK Gaming's form. In this match the club will play the first number one, with odds to win at around 1.6.

The main achievement of SK Gaming last season was the debut winter LEC split. The team, being among the outsiders and previously ranked top-8 at LEC Spring and LEC Summer, managed not only to make it to the play-offs, but also put up a serious fight against MAD Lions in the match for the top-3.

What followed was much worse. At LEC Spring 2023 SK Gaming were not so confident. This time they managed to pass the regular season and bo1 matches, but not the group stage. SK fell in the top 7.

At LEC Summer 2023 SK Gaming almost repeated the spring result, with a slight improvement. They took the top 6, but thanks to the top 4 at LEC Winter 2023 they still reached the regional finals.

However, SK Gaming's achievements ended at the LEC 2023 finals. There they played the only match against BDS and lost 0-3 without a chance.

SK Gaming passed the group stage of LEC Winter 2024 quite well. The team played the regular season with a score of 5-4.

SK Gaming's most popular champions

The top SK Gaming picks were Gnar (2 games, 1 win), KSante (1 game, 0 wins), Camile (1 game, 1 win), Sion (1 game, 1 win), Renekton (1 game, 1 win).

Sejuani and Eliza are honoured in the forest. Both champions have appeared twice each and won both matches, but Vi and Kindred have lost their games.

The centre line performs on Sylas (2 matches, 50% wins), Kassadin (1 time, 0 wins), Azir, Syndra and Akali (1 game each and 100% wins).

From shooters - Zeri. The character appeared 3 times and won 2 matches, besides Varus (who lost the only match), Sivir and Lucian.

Karma, who has had enough of Karma, as well as Renata Glasc and Lulu. Yummi won two matches out of 3, Karma lost the only game, and Renata Glasc and Lulu won.

Vitality Form

We continue our match breakdown with an analysis of Vitality's match form. In this match they are playing as a number two, with odds to win around 2.3.

Vitality is a rather dubious team. They showed a rather unstable game throughout last year. Globally speaking, their 13th season was a failure, and a serious one at that.

They started last season by participating in LEC Winter 2023. In the regular season, Vitality went over the heads of their opponents: they played it 7-2 and then went to play the group stage, where they had much less luck. So much so that Vitality failed to get out of their basket, Ledgeiv SK Gaming and KOI. As a result, the top 5.

Next up was an appearance at LEC Spring 2024. This was Vitality's best split where they managed to make it to the top 3. However, that was enough for exactly nothing: just Top 3.

The last tournament last season for Vitality was LEC Summer 2023. And it was a total fiasco: Vitality had their worst performance of the year, going 1-8 in the regular season and finishing the split in the top 10.

The team has a pretty strong lineup, but the realisation is Vitality's kryptonite.

In the first match of LEC Winter 2024, Team Vitality will play against GIANTX, where I see problems for the Bees. I think EXCEL's peppy core will give Vitality a boost. And so it happened. And two more defeats later, against Fnatic and Team BDS.

Vitality were actually pleasantly surprised. After Long Sogpeg 0-3, the "bees" managed to comeback on a score of 4-5, thus making it to the next stage of the tournament.

Vitality's most popular champions

The most frequent guest on the top line was Jax (2 matches, 100% wins). Also picked were KSante, Gnar, Gwen and Ornn, Renekton and Gragas. Ornn and Renekton, who didn't quite hit the season 13 meta, lost their matches.

Bo predominantly played as Vi. One of the most meta characters of the season appeared in spades 4 times and won all his games. There was also Sejuani and Maokai (2 games and 1 win each).

On the centre line, Azir was the favourite character (3 games, 100% wins). The Croatian also played Ryze, Syndra, Cassiopeia, Tristana, LeBlanc and Taliyah. Only Tristana and LeBlanc lost.

Of the shooters, Zeri (3 games, 66% wins), Ezreal (2 matches, 100% wins), Varus (2 games, 100% wins) appeared most often. Caitlyn and Sivir peaked once each: the former won her game and the latter lost.

Of the supporting characters, Yummi (3 games, 33% wins), Ashe (2 games, 100% wins) played three times. Leona, Braum, Nami and Lux won once each.
