Atomfall Main Quest Walkthrough: Full historieguide og viktige avgjørelser

Atomfall is a game that has captured the attention of gamers with its gripping gameplay and immersive storyline. It strikes a perfect balance between tension, fear, and curiosity. Thanks to its challenging puzzles and overall difficulty, players can fully dive into the game’s atmosphere and enjoy a rich, complete narrative experience.

But that's not the only thing that makes Atomfall stand out. Unlike typical games of this genre, it doesn’t offer predefined objectives. You'll have to gather clues and hints to piece together the full picture and uncover all the secrets behind the Windscale disaster.

In this blog, we’ll break down the main storyline that leads to the ending unlocked by following the mysterious telephone caller. There will be spoilers ahead, so read with caution — and enjoy!

Complete Walkthrough of Atomfall's Main Storyline

Atomfall Main Quest Walkthrough

At the beginning of this blog, I mentioned the ending tied to the mysterious caller — and that’s no coincidence. I wasn’t mistaken: the game features a total of six different endings, each connected to a character you’ll meet along your journey. These characters include the Unknown Telephone Caller, Captain Sims, Dr. Garrow, Dr. Alan Holder, Joyce Tanner, and Mother Jago.

To get the most out of Atomfall’s story, I recommend following the storyline paths of Dr. Garrow and Dr. Alan Holder. I’ve covered all Atomfall Endings: All Endings in Game and How To Get Them in a separate blog, so if you run into trouble during your playthrough — feel free to check it out.

In this guide, we’ll follow the path of the Unknown Telephone Caller. This is a mysterious figure who seems to know your every move — who you talk to, where you go, and what you’re planning. His only advice: trust no one but him. But can you really trust him?

After exiting the Derelict Bunker and arriving in Slatten Dale, you’ll see a red telephone booth ringing just ahead. Pick up the call, and you’ll be introduced to the enigmatic caller, who cryptically says: “Oberon must die.” These words will define your main objective throughout this storyline.

At this stage, all data centers will be offline. Your next goal is to restore power.

Step 2: Powering Up the Data Centers

Atomfall Main Quest Walkthrough

It’s important to know that each region has its own entrance to the Interchange zone:

  • Slatten Dale: 31.0 E, 77.8 N
  • Wyndham Village: 33.8 E, 78.3 N
  • Skethermoor: 39.6 E, 73.1 N
  • Casterfell Woods: 27.6 E, 83.6 N

The game features four data centers — Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta — and each one requires an Atomic Battery to be activated. To proceed further, you’ll need to collect at least four of them.

Before doing that, I strongly recommend acquiring the Signal Redirector — it will play a crucial role in the next stage. So don’t ignore this advice.

Where to Find the Signal Redirector The Signal Redirector can be found in two locations:

  • Skethermoor Prison
  • A Windfall Crate

The easiest way to obtain it without fighting or trouble is by cooperating with Captain Sims in Wyndham Village. Here’s what you need to do:

First, go to the Village Hall and speak with Captain Sims. This will be your starting point for acquiring the Signal Redirector without combat.

To gain his trust, you’ll need to investigate a mysterious murder that occurred at St. Katherine’s Church. Complete the investigation and report your findings back to Sims.

After that, he’ll assign you a new task — to retrieve important information from Dr. Garrow, who is being held in Skethermoor Prison.

Once you reach the prison, find and talk to Dr. Garrow, then check the Security Room. On one of the shelves, you’ll find the Signal Redirector you need.

Step 3: Finding Atomic Batteries

Atomfall Main Quest Walkthrough

Atomic Batteries are one of the most important and rare resources in the game — without them, activating the data centers is impossible. Here’s where and how you can get them:

  • Robots — All mechanical enemies in Atomfall are powered by Atomic Batteries. Defeating a robot will allow you to extract one battery, but be prepared for a tough fight — these enemies are no pushovers and require solid preparation.
  • Trader Molly (Slatten Dale) — One of the most straightforward ways to obtain a battery. You can either trade with Molly fairly or, if you don’t want to spend your resources, kill her and loot the battery from her body. The choice is yours.
  • The Vicar at St. Katherine’s Church — Investigate the murder that occurred on church grounds. Once the investigation is completed successfully, you’ll receive a chest key as a reward. The chest is located on the upper floor and contains another Atomic Battery. If you prefer a more direct route, you can kill the vicar and take the key by force.
  • Broken Robot in the Skethermoor Region — Head to the area near Nora’s Camp (coordinates: 41.2 E, 78.2 N), where you’ll find a damaged robot. You can extract an Atomic Battery from it safely without a fight.
  • Nora (Skethermoor) — Nora also possesses an Atomic Battery. As with Molly, you can either trade with her or choose the darker path and take it by force.
  • Landmark — Greenhouse (Vehicle Storage Bunker) — Inside this bunker, look for a Storage Room Keycard lying on one of the beds. Use it to unlock the storage room located at the far right end of the bunker. Inside, you’ll find another battery. This is a safe and non-violent method to restock.

The order in which you collect the batteries isn’t critical, so don’t worry about that too much — but try to plan your route to avoid getting lost.

Step 4: Restoring Power to the Data Centers

Atomfall Main Quest Walkthrough

Once you’ve collected four Atomic Batteries, return to each of the data centers — Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta — and insert a battery into the corresponding console. Without this step, none of the centers will function.

After powering up all the data centers, head back to the Central Processing Center, located within the Interchange zone. Here, your task is to activate the main system. To do that, you’ll need to use the Signal Redirector — a device that allows you to manually reroute the flow of energy.

Pay close attention to the power lines running along the floor; they’ll indicate where the current is going. Your objective is to redirect all four lines so that the energy flows directly into the Processing Center. Once everything is properly aligned, approach the control console and pull the lever.

Successfully activating the system will unlock access to the next key location — Windscale Plant, where the main storyline continues.

Step 5: Destroying Oberon

Once access to the Windscale Plant is unlocked, make your way inside. However, proceed with extreme caution — this area is heavily contaminated with a strange infection that, with prolonged exposure, can be lethal to your character. Keep an eye on your infection levels and avoid staying in hazardous zones for too long.

How to Reduce Infection (Optional)

If, during your playthrough, you helped Mother Jago, she will ask you to retrieve her lost book. Nearby, you’ll also find a recipe for a Strange Tonic, which can help resist the infection. To safely explore the contaminated area, complete Jago’s quest and head to the Druid’s Castle, located in Casterfell Woods. That’s where you’ll find the recipe you need.

Reaching the Oberon Dig Site

As you move deeper into the Windscale Plant complex, you’ll eventually come across a door leading to the Oberon Dig Site. After entering, proceed carefully — the area is patrolled by combat robots, and any open confrontation could be fatal.

Once you reach the site, look for the building on the left — that’s your destination.Inside, begin searching for four explosives that have already been planted across different parts of the dig site. Your objective is to locate and activate each of them.

After that, head to the control room located within the same building and pull the self-destruct lever. This will trigger the complete destruction of the Oberon facility and bring you closer to the conclusion of the main storyline.

Step 6: Returning to the Derelict Bunker

Atomfall Main Quest Walkthrough

After Oberon is destroyed, the mysterious Telephone Caller will guide you toward your escape. Follow his instructions and return to the Derelict Bunker, back to where it all began — the room where you first woke up.

Once you enter the room, it will start filling with gas, causing you to lose consciousness. This moment marks the final stage of the mission and the conclusion of the chosen storyline.

Is that really all?

Unfortunately, yes — in this ending, that’s all there is. This particular outcome is considered one of the bad endings in the game. But don’t worry — you can always replay Atomfall, make different choices, and take alternative actions. Every decision you make will influence the ending you receive. And each ending offers a unique cutscene, mood, and emotional aftertaste once the game is over.
