Ultimate Spellbook League of Legends Mode 2024 Overview: Release Date, Rules & More

League of Legends has two permanent game modes – classic 5v5 on Summoner’s Rift and ARAM, where 5v5 teams compete on a single lane. From time to time, temporary events appear in the game that can vary widely in content and nature.

In 2024, we saw the return of the PvE mode Swarm, as well as the Arena mode. It seems Riot will continue the trend of releasing more diverse gameplay content, as the Ultimate Spellbook mode will be introduced with the release of patch 14.19.

Ultimate Spellbook in LoL is not a new mode. It first appeared in the game in 2021 with the 11.14 update. Ultimate Spellbook 2024 Release Date

In 2024, the Ultimate Spellbook mode will appear on the live servers of League of Legends on September 25. On the same day, patch 14.19 is expected to be released, adding the League of Legends Fright Night 2024 skin set to the game.

Additionally, the main League of Legends tournament of the season – the World Championship 2024 – will kick off on September 25, where 20 teams from 8 competitive regions will compete for the championship title and a prize pool of $2,250,000. Thus, the Ultimate Spellbook will, in one way or another, be part of the Worlds 2024 content and will be active at least until November 2, 2024.

What is the Ultimate Spellbook Mode?

Now that we’ve established that Ultimate Spellbook is one of the game modes, let’s explore what’s “under the hood” of this mode. Here’s the answer.

The Ultimate Spellbook mode is a PvP game mode where you are given the choice of an ultimate ability from another champion. This ability replaces one of the Summoner Spells. Here are the key features of this mode for better clarity:

• At the beginning of the match, players have 30 seconds to select one ultimate ability from four randomly presented options. Throughout the game, you will have access to two ultimates: your champion's native ultimate and the one you picked.
• The ultimate you choose does not consume mana or any other resources. It starts with a cooldown period of 130 seconds and can be activated even before reaching level 6.
• New Feature: Successfully defeating Baron Nashor, Elder Dragon, or securing a Dragon Soul grants every team member an extra charge of their selected ultimate.
• After using your chosen ultimate, you may use it again just three seconds later if you have additional charges.
• New Feature: As the game progresses, you will have chances to swap your selected ultimate whenever you recall to base or respawn. After the first 8 minutes and every 6 minutes thereafter, you'll receive a reroll opportunity, presenting you with three new ultimate options.
• Additionally, swapping ultimates rewards you with 300 bonus gold and various stats to promote adaptability.

Ultimate Spellbook Mode Rules

Since this is a fun mode (at least that was the intention from the start), the Ultimate Spellbook has modified basic game rules aside from the absence of a second Summoner Spell. Here’s what we mean:

• All players start the game at level 3 with 950 gold.
• Passive experience and gold gain are enhanced.
• Last hits are shared among nearby teammates.
• Turret Platings disappear at 9:00, and the Rift Herald spawns at 6:00.

These changes affect the duration of the game. Usually, a match in Ultimate Spellbook ends before the game timer hits 30 minutes, though there are exceptions.

Changes are also applied to champion roles. First and foremost, we’re talking about Junglers, who can join team fights much faster than in standard SoloQ.

Junglers have a built-in Smite that activates from auto-attacks. This allows them not to worry about having Smite when clearing important jungle monsters like Red and Blue Buffs, as well as Rift Scuttlers and Epic Monsters.

Additionally, Junglers can use their native ultimate before level 6, which significantly alters the course of the game. However, the cooldown for the native ultimate is increased to 210 seconds instead of the standard 130, so don’t worry; ganks in the top lane will happen, but not as frequently.
