The group stage of IEM Sydney 2023 is gaining momentum. The final match of the second round of Group B games is coming up. The match for the play-offs.

In the semifinals of the upper grid we will see a match between G2 Esports and Cloud9. The winner of the match will go to the next round of the tournament, i.e. play-offs, and the loser will go to the lower grid and from there will try to make it to the main stage.

We are trying to figure out which of the teams will be stronger and will move to the play-offs after this match, and who will have to go to play in the losers' bracket.

G2 Esports uniforms

We open the match analysis with an analysis of G2 Esports' playing form. In this match, they will be playing the number one.

Almost all year long G2 Esports do not leave the podiums of major championships. Their rise as a TOP team started with BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2023 and IEM Katowice 2023. Both championships G2 passed confidently and at two tournaments they deservedly became champions.

Next, the "samurai" were stormy. Last season ESL Pro League Season 17 G2 Esports finished on the 9-12 line, which is clearly not the level of the team that recently won Katowice 2023.

After a frankly weak performance at EPL Season 17 G2 Esports played at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. In Paris, NiKo and company had a real fiasco, as the tournament for them ended at the TOP-14 stage, which certainly did not fit into G2's plans.

Prior to ESL Pro League Season 18, G2 Esports made their mark on several other major tournaments. These were BLAST Premier: Spring Finals and Fall Groups, where G2 took top 4 and top 8 respectively.

Next up was IEM Cologne 2023 and finally a win. In the Grand Final they beat ENCE 3-1, thus taking another IEM title for the year.

The last championship was Gamers8. The biggest commercial tournament of the season ended with G2 Esports in the top 4.

G2 Esports started ESL Pro League Season 18 with a betting tirerable win. They beat Lynn Vision 2-0 in their opening match, but to be fair, they were close to a fiasco on the first map.

In the match to advance to the Group A finals, G2 Esports played against Virtus.pro. Not without problems, but the "samurai" defeated Vp with a score of 2-1. After the difficult victory, G2 Esports earned another one, not much easier than the previous one. That time they beat Complexity, thus clawing their way into the playoffs.

G2 Esports left the play-offs at the quarter-finals stage, where they directly qualified from the group. They lost to MOUZ, who later became ESL Pro League Season 18 champions. They lost with a fight - 1-2.

Before taking part in IEM Sydney 2023 G2 Esports played at BLAST Premier: Fall European Showdown 2023. Again a very mediocre result with a top-4 finish.

IEM Sydney 2023 G2 Esports faced Grayhound Gaming. The match ended with a win for the Samurai, but a hard one: 13-11 in favour of G2.

G2 Esports Mappool

The main map of G2 is Ancient. G2 played 8 matches there, and won 6 of them.

Then comes Anubis (3 games, 2 wins), Vertigo (5 games, 3 wins), Inferno (12 games, 58% wins).

G2 Esports has no minus winnings on mapx. Among the "worst" choices are Nuke (7 matches, 4 wins), Mirage (4 wins, 4 losses).

Complexity Gaming uniforms

We continue our review of the IEM Sydney 2023 play-offs match with an analysis of CoL's game form. In this match, they will be playing as the number two.

At the top tournaments, including the Blast Paris Major 2023, CoL have been trailing at the back. The team finished top 21-21-28 at EPL S17, and at Major e it was top 20.

CoL started playing a little better in the second half of the year. They were already top six at BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023.

• Complexity's lineup: EliGe, JT, floppy, hallzerk, Grim.

CoL's "newcomer" was EliGE. The North American CSGO legend joined CoL a month ago, but has already managed to become the leader of the team in KDA with 1.10 rating.

Complexity played at IEM Masters Cologne 2023, where they finished early. CoL crashed out at the Long Cogner Play-In, losing to OG and finishing in the top 24.

CoL partially overcame their failure by winning the local Thunderpick World Championship 2023: North America Series #2. They defeated Nouns in the grand finals.

In the first match at the EPL S18 Complexity faced 9INE. The Poles put up a good fight, but couldn't pull out a win - the result was 2-1 in favour of CoL.

In the match to come here Complexity surprised, perhaps, everyone. They ran over Cloud9 with an ice rink, closing the series 2-0 in their favour.

They didn't manage to play long in the play-offs. CoL went straight to the second round of the main stage, but there they lost to Monte with a 1-2 score, finishing in the top-12.

Before the IEM Sydney 2023 Long Convergence, Monte fuelled themselves with a win on American Blast. They defeated Team Liquid 2-0 in the grand final of the qualifier, thus earning themselves a place at the autumn finals.

In the first round of iEM Sydney 2023 CoL played against Monte. Ukrainian club gave a fight, but the forces were enough only for 9 rounds.

Complexity's mappool

Complexity's mappool is pretty sad. The most successful map is Overpass with 5 wins in 9 matches.

They can also play on Nuke, Ancient and Anubis. But they have 33% wins each, with a very poor record of 6 and 3 maps respectively.

Head-to-head history

During the season CoL and G2 have met twice in official matches: at BLAST Paris Major and ESL Pro League Season 18. Both times the victory was celebrated by G2 Esports.

Both clubs showed a pretty good CS2 at the end of the first round of IEM Sydney. In this respect, CoL looked even better, as they confidently beat a stronger opponent than G2 got.

I believe in the victory of G2 Esports, but I think that CoL will be able to fight and get 1 card.
